What's in a name? Norbridge? Sound familiar? Norbridge wasn't (and still isn't) a place. At least not in the real world.
It was the creation of Bill Moffat who was Headmaster at Thorn Primary school in Johnstone, Scotland for 32 years and transformed the small, unknown primary school into an award-winning centre of excellence across the curriculum.
The fictitious town was created as part of a project for the Scottish Whisky Trade but evolved to where pupils could load up one of hundreds of floppy disks (this is the early 1980s) and interact with many functioning buildings in the town
One of the most popular was the Newspaper newsroom where pupils could contribute to the town's newspaper - The Norbridge Gazette.
Sounding more familiar?
Bill used the Norbridge Gazette as the base of a concept for a television series. The series would focus on a pupil-produced version of the main newspaper to be known as "The Junior Gazette". The concept was named "Press Gang"
The idea for the show was picked up by ITV and the scripts would be penned by Bill's Son, Steven Moffat. Press Gang ran for five seasons and collected industries most prestigious awards along the way including BAFTA & Royal Television Society.
Steven, of course launched his career with Press Gang and is now recognised as one of the top television writers in the world. if you look closely at his works, you will see Norbridge make the odd guest appearance.
Norbridge House is a Boutique Publishing House whose aim is to offer something a bit different.
We offer a mixture of works from both in-house and external authors. Norbridge House will publish previously scripts, short-stories, factual and fiction
Possibly Steven may make guest appearances from time to time and some of his works may appear here too.
We are actively working on several stories where podcasts will accompany the books. Audiobooks are being considered and it is likely we will go down that route too.
Not initially but we will be reviewing this and will also make certain items free to download from the site from time to time
